What are the electrodes for?
Electrodes pick up the tiny electrical signals produced by your brain simply by touching the skin on your scalp; they don't penetrate the skin or deliver any current. These signals can be recorded through hair, which is why the electrodes on the top of the headset are shaped like a comb, so they can part the hair and make good contact with the scalp, while the ones at the bottom are smooth because they sit behind the ear where there is little or no hair. The electrodes have a specially designed, silvery-grey coating that gradually wears down with use, so depending on how much hair you have and how often you train, you will usually need to replace them every few months.
