What is Neuroplasticity and why is it important?

When you experience ongoing problems such as pain, your brain changes to protect you. In the short term this can be helpful, but over time your brain can become overstimulated and very sensitive to internal sensations and things in your environment, and the patterns of activity can get “stuck” like a loop, leading to long‑lasting changes in how your brain works; this process is called neuroplasticity.

Neurofeedback training with Alevia makes use of this same process of neuroplasticity to help your brain develop more helpful ways of noticing sensations and responding to situations. As you complete more training sessions, your brain can begin to respond differently, because groups of neurons start to fire in new, healthier patterns.

In this way, neurofeedback can help to gradually reverse unhelpful neuroplastic changes and guide your brain back toward a more optimal way of functioning. These changes can lead to long‑lasting improvements in your symptoms.
